¡¡Hola, ciudadanos de la blogósfera!! Esperamos que estén muy bien, como nosotras... con temperaturas de -1º C (30º F), ¿quién no podría estar bien?


Since we are stuck in the rut of our four walls, we have decided to post a little something something, so that you get to know us a bit up and close. Below you will see a recount of our dearest, cheapest accesories, the Top of our Charts in terms of "clothing dressings."

Ya que, a causa del gélido clima, no nos queda otra que estar encerradas, decidimos realizar una nueva entrada para que puedan conocernos un poquito mejor. A continuación compartimos algunas fotos con nuestros accesorios más económicos y queridos; esos accesorios que ayudan a mejorar un atuendo.


Let us begin with Pauli's end of the deal. These are her fave.

Ahora pasemos a verlos en detalle.





This bracelet is vintage: my grandma would sell these at her store about two decades ago but I was able to save it for myself. Chains are back and so I took advantage of it.

Esta pulsera es "vintage": mi abuela las vendía en su negocio hace dos décadas atrás y yo logré quedarme con una. Las cadenas están de vuelta y no dejé pasar la oportunidad.



 I love "fashiony" details! And this tiny purse is the best example. I adore it!!!

¡Me encantan los detalles que están relacionados con la moda! Y esta carterita es el mejor ejemplo. ¡¡La adoro!!

 Moving on to brooches/pins, here we have an array of vintage and bargains. The cheapest were the black one and the pink one, each 50 cents of AR peso, which in US$ would retail at... practically for free! The rest are all vintage...

Ahora pasemos a los broches/pins. Acá tenemos una variedad de broches "vintage" y de gangas. Los más baratos fueron el negro y el rosa, cada uno costó 50 centavos de peso argentino, ¡que en US dólares sería casi gratis! Los demás son todos "vintage".

 ...but these owls hold a special place in my heart! I saw them and it was love-at-first-sight window shopping...

...pero estas lechuzas tienen un lugar especial en mi corazón. Las vi en una vidriera y fue amor a primera vista...


What about necklaces? Here we have one of the patrons of my clothing outfits. Funny story, I had given it as a brithday present to my Mom but she never wore it so you could call it a hand-me-down, right?

¿Qué me dicen de los collares? Éste es uno de mis accesorios habituales. A modo de anécdota, les cuento que yo se lo había regalado a mi mamá para su cumpleaños, pero nunca lo usó así que se podría decir que lo heredé, ¿no?




And this one right here is true testament to my penchant for owls. I have had it for a year now: found it in what you would call the dodgy end of Santa Fé street and it was so worth it. It is a pocket watch! How adorable is that?

Y éste es una clara prueba de cuánto me gustan las lechuzas. Me lo compré el año pasado: lo encontré en la parte "fea" de la avenida Santa Fé y la verdad es que fue una excelente compra. ¡Es un reloj de bolsillo! ¿No es súper adorable?



Last but not least, we have a small necklace pendant that was like 20 cents of a US dollar but is ever so cute... We have matching ones as well!

Y por último pero no por eso menos importante, les muestro un dijecito que me salió alrededor de 20 centavos de US dólar... es muy lindo... ¡Y las dos tenemos uno igual!

Bueno, no me digan que los accesorios de Pauli no son una ternura... ¡me encantan!

Even though my favorite accesories are the ones you put on your hair (more on that in a future post!), I do like to wear necklaces, bracelets, brooches, etc... well, who doesn't, right?! ;)

Aunque mis accesorios preferidos son los que se usan en el pelo (más sobre eso en una próxima entrada), me gusta usar collares, pulseras, broches, etc... ¿a quién no? ;)



The necklace on the right is quite simple, but I like the fact that the little ball sparkles! And the one on the left has sentimenal value because it belonged to my aunt and I just love it. It's so colorful that it yells "spring", a season I'm really looking forward to.

El collar de la izquierda es bastante simple, ¡pero me gusta que la bolita brilla! Y el de la derecha tiene valor sentimental porque era de mi tía y me encanta. Es tan colorido que es perfecto para la primavera... estación que estoy esperando con muchas ganas.


I have to say that years ago I wasn't used to wearing bracelets much, but now I just love them. I have many different ones but I especially like these because of their colors. The bangles have flowers on them and that's a win-win for me... I love anything with flowers on it. And the one with pearls and a bow? Perfect. Bows are another obsession of mine.

Debo admitir que años atrás no estaba acostumbrada a usar pulseras, pero ahora me encantan. Tengo muchas pero éstas me gustan especialmente por los colores. Las pulseras de madera tienen flores dibujadas y eso me gusta mucho... me encanta todo lo que tenga flores. Y la pulsera de perlas, que tiene un moñito... es simplemente perfecta. Los moños son otra obsesión que tengo.



I love the silver ball in this bracelet. It has a little ball inside that tinkles when you move the bracelet. It's supposed to protect and offer well-being to the person who wears it. The little red heart was made by one of my uncles, who was a craftsman. And Pauli gave me the little boot as one of my birthday presents :)

Me encanta la pelotita de plata de este llamador de ángeles. Tiene una bolita adentro que suena cuando muevo la pulsera. Se dice que los llamadores de ángeles protegen y otorgan bienestar a quienes los usan. El corazoncito rojo lo hizo uno de mis tíos, que era artesano. Y Pauli me regaló la botita para mi último cumpleaños :)




And last but not least, we have the brooches. The white flowers came with a pair of woolen socks (the ones you wear around the house/to sleep), but they are so pretty that I wear them in hats, coats, cardis, etc. Then there's the little colorful brooch that was my mom's and she gave it to me. It's so cute, I love it. I bought the violet flower pin in Plaza Francia, where there's a huge crafts fair, which is awesome. And the beautiful brown flower was one of the other presents I got from Pauli. She's really the best friend a girl could ask for :)


Y por último, pero no por eso menos importante, tenemos los broches. Las flores blancas venían con un par de medias de lana (de esas que se usan de entre casa/para dormir), pero son tan lindas que las pongo en sombreros, abrigos, sacos, etc. Después está el brochecito de todos colores, que era de mi mamá y me lo regaló. Es tan bonito, me encanta. El pin de la flor violeta lo compré en la feria de la Plaza Francia. Y la hermosa flor marrón fue otro de los regalos que me hizo Pauli. La verdad que es la mejor amiga que una chica podría tener :)

Hi, everyone! Hope you're doing well. Today I want to talk about one of my favorite spreads: if there is one thing I could eat every day for the rest of my life, that's Nutella. This chocolate and hazelnut spread is super delicious and I've been a big fan of it since my mom introduced me to it when I was a little girl. So whenever I hear about a new way to eat it, I can't wait to try it out. I remember a few months ago I read that Nutella goes well with slices of apple. So I tried that and, indeed, it was delicious. But then I decided to go a bit further and experiment a bit more and thought I'd try it with bread and peanut butter, in the form of a sandwich. And let me tell you friends, that was one tasty sandwich! The saltiness of the peanut butter balances out the sweetness of Nutella and the bread holds everything together. Trust me, it's really good :) This is what I used to make my sandwich, but you can adapt it to your own tastes:


¡Hola a todos! Espero que se encuentren bien. Hoy quiero contarles sobre uno de mis productos culinarios favoritos: si hay algo que podría comer todos los días por el resto de mi vida es la Nutella. Este producto a base de cacao y avellanas es simplemente delicioso y me ha encantado desde que mi mamá me lo hizo probar cuando yo era chiquita. Así que cada vez que veo alguna nueva manera de comer Nutella, no pierdo la oportunidad de ver de qué se trata. Me acuerdo que hace unos meses leí que la Nutella va muy bien con rodajas de manzana. Entonces, probé comerla con manzanas y la verdad es que queda muy bien. Pero después decidí ir un pasito más allá y se me ocurrió probarla con manteca de maní y pan, en forma de sándwich. Y déjenme que les diga, ¡ese sándwich estaba riquísimo! Lo salado de la manteca de maní se mezcla muy bien con la Nutella, que es bien dulce, y el pan mantiene todo unido. Háganme caso, es muy rico :) Estos son los ingredientes que usé para hacer el sándwich, pero ustedes pueden adaptarlo cómo más les guste:


To make one sandwich, you'll need:

• 1 green apple, cut in thin slices (you can use red, but in this case I prefer green apples because they aren't as sweet)
• Nutella
• Crunchy peanut butter (you can use creamy, of course, but I like my peanut butter to be crunchy)
• 2 slices of white bread (again, you can use any kind you want, this is just my preference)

Para hacer un sándwich, necesitan:

• 1 manzana verde, cortada en rodajas bien finas (pueden usar manzanas rojas, pero en este caso yo prefiero las verdes porque son más ácidas)
• Nutella
• Manteca de maní "crunchy" (pueden usar la versión cremosa, pero a mí me encanta la que es "crunchy" porque tiene pedacitos de maní)
• 2 rodajas de pan blanco (de nuevo, acá pueden usar el tipo de pan que más quieran, éste es el que prefiero yo nomás)

Then you just spread the peanut butter on one slice of bread and Nutella on the other and place the apple slices in the middle. If you want, you can cut the sandwich in half (it makes it a bit easier to eat). Now all there is left to do is enjoy this delish snack! Hope you give it a try, see you next time! :)

Después, sólo queda esparcir la manteca de maní en una de las rodajas de pan y la Nutella en la otra. Luego ponen las rodajas de manzana en el medio y ¡listo! Si quieren, pueden cortar el sándwich a la mitad (así es más fácil para comerlo). Ahora sólo queda disfrutar de este delicioso sándwich! Espero que lo prueben, ¡nos vemos la próxima! :)

P.D.: Para nuestros amigos argentinos (¡y latinoamericanos también!); hoy en día, la Nutella se consigue en la mayoría de los supermercados (Coto, Disco, Carrefour) y en negocios donde venden productos importados, pero la manteca de maní sólo la he visto en Carrefour. Si no llegaran a encontrar manteca de maní, podrían reemplazarla por queso crema... no es lo mismo, pero como es salado, podría llegar a ser una buena opción.

Today we have the very talented Fiona Apple singing the awesome Beatles cover "Across the Universe". She covered this song for the movie "Pleasantville". I absolutely love the Beatles so I'm pretty strict when it comes to artists making covers of their songs, but I think she did a really good job with this song.


Bonus track: Literalmente

Esta vez tenemos a la muy talentosa Fiona Manzana ;) y su cover de los Beatles "Across the Universe". Fiona grabó el cover de esta canción para la película "Pleasantville". Yo adoro a los Beatles, así que soy bastante estricta con los covers que hacen otros artistas de sus canciones, pero en este caso creo que Fiona logró una muy buena versión.

Hi, fellow citizens of the world! I have summoned your presence back into this section to show you one of my latest milestones in the practicality department. As Berni and I have mentioned before, it is a dead-end street bringing some pieces of clothing into Argentina from overseas due to government limiting policies on our import capacity, by which our clothing items may A) rot away in customs for the rest of our days, B) be held hostage until the rightful owner dares pay up an extra unfair amount of big bucks as a sort of toll-fare and on top of taxes...that is if they will even let you have such privilege. 


And let us be honest, some of the clothing outfit array offered to us women here go from the blatant pattern and model repetition to the boring plain pattern-and-fabric variations. Soooooooo, that leaves us with creativity. Case in point:




¡Hola, ciudadanos del mundo! Las he convocado una vez más a esta sección para mostrarles uno de mis logros en lo que a practicidad se refiere. Como Berni y yo les aclaramos antes, es una tarea infructuosa e insalubre entrar productos desde el exterior a la Argentina, dado que el gobierno limita las importaciones y nos deja con dos opciones: A) que las prendas se pudran en la aduana por la eternidad de las eternidades o B) que nuestra preciada adquisición sea tomada como rehén hasta que nosotros, los dueños legítimos, decidamos pagar una suerte de "peaje" además de un abultado impuesto. Y eso es si tenemos suerte.


 Y seamos honestos, la gama de opciones de vestimenta que ofrecen acá a las consumidoras van desde la evidente repetición de modelos y motivos de géneros en telas hasta la aburrida y poco aventurada creación de cortes, terminaciones y estampados. Por ende, nos queda la creatividad. A saber:

This is a beautiful cardigan from one of our top online stores, Mod Cloth (be sure to check it out if you have not just yet. You can even have your own wishlist!). I searched high and low, left no store unturned and could not find something even remotely similar. Therefore, I created this:


 Aquí tenemos un precioso cardigan de una de nuestras tiendas online favoritas, Mod Cloth (no se pierdan la oportunidad de chusmear un poco lo que les ofrece y de armar una lista ideal de prendas o "wishlist"). Busqué por cielo y tierra pero no pude encontrar nada que se le pareciera remotamente. Por lo tanto, yo decidí crear lo siguiente:










And by "I" I meant "we," because my mother was nice enough to do the knitting and I did the embroidery. It is made of wool, both the white cardigan and the colored hearts. I first did the frame of the heart and then I randomly filled in the white inside. 


Cuando dije "yo" quise decir en realidad "nosotras" porque mi mamá se tomó la molestia de tejer el sweater blanco y yo me encargué del bordado de los corazones. Es de lana, tanto el sweater en sí como los corazones.  Primero hice el contorno de los corazones y después los rellené a piachere. 






I made big and small hearts. The woolen thread may look a bit tricky but it is all a put up show. 


Hice corazones grandes y chicos. Por más que la lana parezca querernos jugar una mala pasada es bastante dócil. 








I hope you liked it as much as I enjoyed doing it. Let me tell you, the actual process is kind of fun and mind-distracting. This show stopping situation may not apply to your country, thank God, but you can still make use of our unendingly resourceful-mindedness.
